Legendary UK Promoter Brian Dixon Passes

One of professional wrestling's most enduring promoters, Dixon promoted for over 50 years.

The Cauliflower Alley Club is saddened to learn of the passing of famed, UK wrestling promoter Brian Dixon and extends our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans.


The United Kingdom wrestling fan website, Wrestling Heritage, posted this tribute to Mr. Dixon.


"Wrestling promoter Brian Dixon has died. To say that he changed the face of of British wrestling is no exaggeration. Starting his own company, Wrestling Enterprises, in 1970 it grew to become the largest and most enduring of wrestling promotions. In the 1980s Wrestling Enterprises, now trading as All Star, attracted many of the biggest names in wrestling away from their exclusive Joint Promotions contracts.




Brian was the David who took on Goliath and succeeded where Paul Lincoln and Jackie Pallo had failed, breaking the Joint Promotions monopoly of televised wrestling. A contract with ITV to broadcast allowed televised fans to watch Brian's All Star Promotions as well as Joint Promotions, and fans were largely positive to the more exciting shows he presented.



In the 1990s when wrestling attendances steeply declined and most promotional businesses folded it was Brian Dixon that endured, evolved and grew to maintain his position as Britain's top promoter. Over more than fifty years he demonstrated the ability to adapt the wrestling product to satisfy the paying public.



Many wrestlers, from Giant Haystacks to Robbie Brookside, and dozens beside, owe a great deal to Brian Dixon for giving them their start in British wrestling. It would be hard to over-estimate Brian Dixon's influence.
