The Russian Bear Passes Away

Courtesy of RingsideNews.com:  The 2013 Iron Mike Mazurki Award winner, the “Russian Bear” Ivan Koloff, has passed away at the age of 74 after his battle with liver cancer.

Koloff was the man who famously ended the first championship reign of Bruno Sammartino. Most recently, Koloff was a regular at the Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfests in Charlotte, NC. It was very obvious to anyone who saw him walk that the business had taken a hard physical toll upon Koloff as he had an obvious bad limp from hip issues dating back to decades of bumping.

The CAC would like to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of a the Russian Bear.

  1. I got to see koloff wrestle live in the old maple leaf gardens on a few occasions. He was a great heel who made his opponents look great as well.

  2. Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s Ivan was one of my idols. I got to meet him in 1983 when I went to Allentown and Hamburg,PA. to do TV in the WWF. He was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. RIP Ivan, heaven needed a Champion. Len Kruger
