SummerSlam Watch-A-Long Event to Benefit the CAC

SummerSlam Watch-A-Long Event to Benefit the CAC

Hooked On Wrestling to host Virtual WWE SummerSlam watch-a-long and SummerSlam 1992 celebration on Sunday, August 23 in aid of the Cauliflower Alley Club.

(London) With live viewing parties still being impossible, the UK’s leading WWE watch party organisers, Hooked On Wrestling, are planning to host the biggest online SummerSlam party of all time alongside our partners Wrestle Merch Central. The event will be held to raise funds for the Cauliflower Alley Club with the goal of raising £1,000 (approx. $1,308 USD) before the bell for the opening match of SummerSlam 2020.

The event will take place the same night as this year’s SummerSlam event on Sunday, August 23 and will be streamed live exclusively on the Hooked On Wrestling’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

As well as watching this year’s SummerSlam with the Hooked On Wrestling crowd, we will use the night to celebrate the biggest night in the history of British wrestling: SummerSlam 1992.

The event is completely free of charge and will begin at 8 PM UK time (3 PM Eastern time) hosted by Paul Benson and Rob McNichol from Hooked On Wrestling and feature the following exclusive content:

We will watch the SummerSlam main event of the British Bulldog vs. Bret Hart along with Davey Boy’s children, Harry and Georgia Smith live from Florida who will share stories about their legendary father and discuss their memories of SummerSlam back in the day.

Exclusive live interview with Diana Hart Smith for her first live interview about the emotions running up to SummerSlam 1992. With her husband and brother set to main event in front of what was then the biggest legitimate crowd in wrestling history, how did both men cope with the pressure and expectations of the event and how did the family feel in the aftermath?

We speak to the co-promoter of SummerSlam 1992, Martin Goldsmith. More than anyone else, Martin was responsible for bringing SummerSlam to London. Hear the stories about how he convinced Vince McMahon to run his first PPV outside North America as well as some of the shocking and hilarious stories about what happened behind the scenes.

The traditional Hooked On Wrestling live “pub” quiz. Our quizmaster Rob McNichol will host an online wrestling quiz, just like at our usual parties, for everyone to play along with at home.

We will have appearances from a bunch of surprise guests and familiar faces throughout the night.

At midnight, we will ask everyone to turn to their WWE Network feed and we will stick around, watching the show live and discussing the happenings as they occur at SummerSlam with the Hooked On Wrestling audience. This will feature appearances from various members of the Hooked On Wrestling presenting team from around the UK.

Special prizes and giveaways throughout the night.

An important part of the evening will be to raise funds for the Cauliflower Alley Club. The CAC is the organisation set up to offer assistance to wrestlers and their families who have fallen on hard times. They do an amazing job aiding and honouring our heroes and we are delighted for an opportunity to give something back to those that gave us so much throughout the years. Whilst our event is completely free, we are encouraging our attendees to give what they can to our CAC fund. It is open now and our goal is to raise £1,000 before the opening match of SummerSlam for this amazing cause. To join in, fans just need to visit the Hooked On Wrestling Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hookedonwrestling) or YouTube channel (youtube.com/hookedonwrestling) where our whole event will be streamed live. For the avoidance of doubt, we will not be screening SummerSlam itself, fans will need to subscribe to the WWE Network if they wish to watch along with our team from midnight.

Paul Benson, Managing Director of Hooked On Wrestling said: “We are gutted that we are still unable to bring wrestling fans together at WWE viewing parties up and down the country. Since we had to put our events on hold we have been working hard to build a community of wrestling fans online and our SummerSlam online viewing party will be the highlight. It has been a dark few months and we want to bring wrestling fans in the UK and beyond together for a special night around SummerSlam and look back at the iconic Intercontinental Championship win for the British Bulldog at Wembley with his close family. It will be a really special night and we will have plenty of surprise guests and prize giveaways going on also. We hope wrestling fans around the world will join us on Facebook and YouTube for this free event.”

Hooked On Wrestling’s SummerSlam Virtual Party will take place on Sunday, August 23.
