Eddie
Guerrero- A special kidBy
Exec. Vice President Karl Lauer
When I came home from church and heard Morgan's
message about Eddie,
it took me and Barbara several minutes to accept what we had heard.
Of the literally hundreds of wrestlers I have known or worked with
over the last 58 years, 3 are extremely close to us. Leo Garibaldi,
Gory Guerrero and Eddie Guerrero.
In 1979 Gory and I formed Six Amigo's wrestling promotions in Los
Angeles, Gory had the book and I had the job of filling the arena's,
we were running 4 towns A WEEK, Santa Ana, San Pedro, Oxnard and
Oceanside. Our young helpers and slaves of the weekly headaches were
a 11 year old Eddie Guerrero and 13 year old Wayne Lauer. These two
were like glued to each other for the next 4 years. Every weekend
they would spend together and all summer, they wrestled and chased
the girls together. If they were not at the Lauer house they were at
the Guerrero home. When Gory decided to move back to El Paso, Texas
due to health reasons Eddie went also. That was 1983 I believe.
When we would visit them Eddie had the pro fever and asked when I am
ready I will come and work for you "Uncle Karl" And he did in 1988
and on and off for the next 5 years. He worked for us in WWA and the
WIN and the AAA. I knew then that he would make his mark as one of
greatest Mexican stars. I was with Eddie just 2 months ago Sept.11,
2005 in Springfield Mo for a WWE house show. We had a great visit and
he was planning to bring his family to our ranch in Missouri, was
excited about seeing Wayne again, it had been almost 20 years. The
wrestling world has lost a great talent and the Lauers have lost a
great friend and the subject of some wonderful memories, which we
will always have.
I am sure history will list the Name of Guerrero as one of the
greatest wrestling families, a father Gory, four sons Chavo, Mando,
Hector and Eddie and one grandson Chavo Jr. known by us as Chavito who
had his first match for me in Los Angeles at the famous Olympic a
building that his family had sold out 10,400 seats on countless
occasions, I know he will make his uncle Eddie proud.
In the next few weeks a lot of stories will arise, some true, some
exaggerated and some completely fabricated. I choose to ignore them
and remember Eddie Guerrero as one very nice young man who made my
life a little more enjoyable with his wit, his talent and his
friendship.
